Hey, i saw this on Mistresslegato's journal and i really think it is a beautiful image.
so you want some critique eh?
The reason why this piece is so good is because it has good design--very nice usage of space. However, you didn't quite tap into what watercolor is about. If it weren't for the grain on the paper, I would have easily mistaken this for tempera paint. While you did a great job with brushwork, you used too much control. The way you get a really stunning watercolor painting is to let the water and pigment run freely. that paper is thick, it can take layers and layers of water; it's okay to let the colors run.
I would suggest running a wet brush over the area you're going to color and then put the color on. and don't be afraid to do a full page wash in a light tone before you add in anything, it takes care of white space and sets a mood.
hope that helps ^^
if you have any questions, just ask
THat was wonderful feed back, and you are so right. I think this was like the 2nd painting i did. I was fearful while doing this of the water running every wear, but i think i started to get the feel of the paint and the water
Is all the pieces in you gallery water color? I am taking a quick look and i see what you mean with the show the feel of the paper. amd i love the idea of a light wash!
most of my work is watercolor now, it's kind of a lazy medium XD because you just wash and let it sit. I really started this past summer...because i suddenly realized how easily it fills up space on a page lol. that and it's a REALLY cheap medium--a tube or block lasts like...years
well for the most part its chep enless you get to really good stuff. and i think i have only gone through one tube myself, lol. Have you tought yourself how to work the colors or have to taken a class?
Its really beautiful. I would love to give you a good comment, but I dont know what you where trying to achieve with this other than a beautiful watercolor tree. If thats the sole purpose of this piece then you have succeeded.
